Last May 13, 2016, I was privileged to be invited to LaCie, a premium brand from Seagate, and Power Mac Center's event as they launch the newest Porsche and Rugged Design Drives at Power Mac Center, Rockwell Power Plant Mall. 

During the event, Mr. Sam Zavaglia, Seagate Technology Senior Field Applications Engineer, gave a brief introduction of LaCie's newest offerings and had a short demonstration to showcase the products' specifications.



Porsche Design Drives: 

LaCie Porsche Design Mobile Drives are available in 1TB, 2TB and 4TB capacities starting at P6,990.00 while the LaCie Porsche Design Desktop Drive comes in 4TB, 5TB and 8TB capacities starting at P12,490.00

• enclosed in a sleek all-aluminum cover that reflects the signature Porsche design which is scratch resistant and dissipates heat for optimal performance.
• features forward-thinking USB-C connectivity with identical and reversible cable ends 
• fast transfer speeds and backup
• comes with an adapter cable compatible with standard USB 3.0 (Type A) ports 
• can charge a compatible laptop's battery (e.g Apple Macbook) when drive is connected to an electric outlet with 30W of power and files can be accessed all at the same time 

Rugged Drives:

• designed by Neil Poulton, it is preferred to be an all-terrain storage which its durability, unparalleled performance and data security
• offers twice the speed and capacity of a standard 2TB  HDD (with approximate speed of 120MB/s
• the only product in its class to feature hardware RAID 0 and 1 which lets professionals optimize it for speed or data security according to their workflow
• features Thunderbolt and USB 3.0 along with 2 internal hard drives preconfigured in hardware RAID 0 for sustained performance of up to 240 MB/s which can transfer 64gb of content in less than 5 minutes (tested using AJA System connected to a Mac computer via Thunderbolt interface. Rates may vary depending on factors such as chosen interface and disk capacity)

LaCie Rugged Raid comes in 4TB at P24,999 and the LaCie Rugged Triple Drive is available in 1TB(P8,899.00) and 2TB(P12,999.00)

• can edit photos in the field with Adobe Lightroom
• has a mirrored mode (RAID 1) that can duplicate data across two drives so in case a drive cannot be opened, you can access the other one.
• has a whopping 4TB or sixty 64gb memory card
• can withstand drops (in non operating mode) of up to 1.5meters/5feet and can be run over by a 1ton car (test shows that the hard drive is still functional despite aesthetic damages)
