The aging process makes no exception for any of us. It doesn’t matter if you're male or female, 18 years old or 40 years old, the fact of the matter is we’re all getting older each and every day. Sure, you may not notice differences in your physical appearance and your body right away, but make no mistake. The aging process is happening as we speak, and eventually, these changes will begin to appear whether we like it or not. Are you ready for it?
From a slower metabolism to the development of fine lines and wrinkles, the aging process is inevitable. And while there isn’t anything you can do to stop it entirely, there are a couple of ways you can prevent the process from affecting all parts of your being.
Starting with your skin, here are three healthy skin hacks to help you preserve your radiant glow:
Even if you’re only 20 years old, you’re not too young to use anti-aging cream. In fact, adding an anti-aging treatment to your daily skincare regime when you’re younger may be one of the best things you can do to ensure you’re wrinkle-free when you get older! Now, if you’ve already reached your 30s and have yet to include an anti-aging treatment in your daily regimen, don’t panic! You still have time to fight off those unwanted wrinkles, regardless of whether or not they’ve already developed.
However, to ensure you don’t waste any more time or money on incompatible skincare products, you may want to refrain from using an over-the-counter anti-aging treatment and instead use one that’s prescription grade. Besides the fact that prescription skincare is more trustworthy, it also usually has a stronger product formula, making it more efficient when treating specific skin conditions like fine lines and wrinkles. So by using a prescription anti-aging creamyou’ll be able to target any existing or preexisting signs of aged skin, and obtain desired results more quickly.
It’s no secret that the sun can wreak havoc on our skin, yet so many of us continue to forget to use sunscreen every day, causing signs of premature aging to appear much faster than normal. Everything from dark spots, to dehydrated skin, to the development of fine lines and wrinkles— can all be attributed to excess sun exposure. Needless to say, applying SPF is no longer an optional step to your skincare regimen; it’s a must!
Regardless of the season or the environmental conditions you're in, be sure to apply SPF as the last step of your skincare regime. This will serve to create the needed barrier between your skin and the sun as it becomes exposed to it more and more throughout the day. Although any amount of SPF is better than no amount at all, for optimal proper protection of the complexion, dermatologists typically recommend using sunscreen or another skincare product with an SPF of at least 30. This will work to block out about 97% of ultraviolet B (UVB) radiation.
When you get older, your body naturally produces less sebum, or oil, causing your skin to become more dry and dehydrated overtime— two common signs of aged skin. For this reason, it’s essential to take the necessary skincare steps to keep your skin plump and hydrated. Even if you have oily or acne-prone skin, you don’t want to skip out on the moisturizer as this aids your ability to maintain your youthful, dewy-looking complexion now and in the future.
The types of skincare products you decide to use to keep your skin plump and hydrated overtime will be dependent on your skin type, however. Someone who normally has dry or sensitive skin, for example, may not want to solely rely on their moisturizer to treat and soothe the skin. While this method may be adequate for someone who normally has an oily complexion, when it comes to these skin types, using a couple of different hydrating products may be a more efficient way to treat and soothe their skin. If you find that your moisturizer isn’t doing enough to care for your complexion, consider pairing it with other anti-aging skincareproducts such as hyaluronic acid or facial oil.
Remember: Everyone’s skincare journey is unique to who they are and the type of skin they have. What may work well for you could be problematic for some. If you experience a negative reaction from a new skincare product or step in your daily skincare routine, stop what you are doing, and consult a licensed professional immediately.
