Why are people with sedentary lifestyle at risk of Obesity?

Global nutrition company, Herbalife, recently released the result of their "Nutrition at work" survey last March 2016 that shows the majority of our country's workforce have sedentary lifestyles which puts them at risk of Obesity.

According to the survey, almost 9 out of 10 (85%) workers spend at least 6 hours a day sitting at their desk and 52% of them eating lunch at that same desk 2 to 5 times per week. Results also show that majority can only exercise 3 times a week and 5 out of 10 gets only less than 30 minutes of physical activity per day at their workplace which seems to be a factor on why cases of obesity has been significantly rising. But need not fret as this issue can easily be managed if only workers decide to improve their nutritional intake and exercise regimen.

“With a majority of Philippines’ workforce leading largely sedentary lifestyles, our mission as a global nutrition company is to help people in the Philippines take practical steps towards leading healthy, active lives. By inculcating positive nutrition and active lifestyle habits to people in the Philippines, we hope that this will, over time, help reduceobesity risks and lead to positive improvements to the well-being of our people,” said Mr. Rosalio Valenzuela, General Manager of Herbalife Philippines.

To addresses such health issues involving those with sedentary lifestyle, Herbalife launched its 5th Asia Pacific Wellness Tour 2016 last April till May and was attended by 80,000 participants across the region. The tour involves medical symposiums, talks and workshops led by the 7 experts from Herbalife's Nutrition Advisory Board (NAB) covering 26 cities across Australia, Cambodia, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Macau, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.

One of the speakers during the tour was Dr. Gary Small, M.D. who recently visited the Philippines and shared his expert views on digital dementia and brain aging at the "Smart Way to Healthy Aging: A Talk by Gary Small, M.D." event. Known to be a brain health and aging specialist, he also authored over 500 scientific works and was also an award winning doctor who recently bagged the "Senior Investigator Award" from the American Association for Geriatric Psychiatry.

Here are the other Herbalife NAB experts present at the Wellness Tour:
