First Ever Smart Parenting: All About Toddlers

10:26:00 PM

With 2 extremely energetic toddlers at home, it can be quite tiring to look after them especially when you arrived from a busy day at work. Don't get me wrong, I love being a mom to my two kids, but when they start getting on my nerves from the tantrums, etc, it can really be stressful. But thanks to workshops and seminars that Smart Parenting organize, I get to learn more about how to deal with issues regarding the kids and tips on how to be understanding and patient parents.

Just last May 14, 2016, I was very fortunate to be invited to attend Smart Parenting's first ever Mom Workshop: All About Toddlers held at Richmonde Hotel Ortigas. They've been organizing workshops/seminars to fulfill their task in providing Filipino parents vital information on effectively caring and raising a child, and this time, they wanted to concentrate on toddlers.

"Smart Parenting Mom Workshops allow readers to learn directly from industry experts, and it gives them a chance to ask questions, learn and interact with fellow parents," said Lei Dimarucut - Sison, Smart Parenting Managing Editor. "This is our way of helping Filipino moms and dads to be the best parents they can be, and raise smart and loving children."

Hosted by Ms. Marylaine Viernes, the Mom Workshop: All about toddlers was dedicated to parents with kids ages 2 to 4 years old. Topics included in the discussions were feeding and nutrition, effective storytelling tips and disciplining children. Major Sponsors such as Baby Belo, Calpol and Insular Life also prepared short talks about skin, health and money issues.

First to impart her knowledge with regards to feeding "picky eaters" is one of the country's leading breastfeeding expert, Ms. Velvet Escario - Roxas. She is an international resource person who holds regular classes and seminars such as Tamang Kain: Infant and Child Feeding and Nutrition and she is also a Deputy Executive Director of Arugaan, a support system for women with infants and young children. It was a fun and an informative discussion as she used real vegetables as her visual aid.

Interestingly, a male speaker was part of the line up as Mr. Gutch Gutierrez talked about the value of storytelling. He is an author and illustrator of children's books and his most noteworthy work, Day of Darkness, won the Kid's Choice Award at the 2014 National Children's Book Awards. He is also the man behind the Youtube channel StoryTellerMNL where they read children's books from the Philippines.

Co-founder and Directress of Young Creative Minds Preschool, Ms. Michelle Lichauco - Tambunting Ed.M talked about disciplining toddlers, instilling values in them and teaching them to be independent. I really loved this topic because I learned about how to deal with my kids tantrums and how to understand and empathize with their emotions.

It was such a helpful event for us moms as we learned a lot of tips from the experts and get to meet other moms and share different experiences with our toddlers. I am looking forward to attending upcoming Smart Parenting seminars to be able to learn more from other experts in this field. Again, I would like to thank Ms. Jen Bolinao of Summit Media for this opportunity.
