Chan Lim Family of Artists and Students showcase their masterpieces at SM North EDSA's Chinese New Year Art Exhibit

Whenever there is a special occasion, may it be Valentine's Day, Christmas or Halloween, SM City North EDSA always create well-thought-of exhibits at the spacious The Block Atrium. This coming Chinese New Year, they've partnered with the Chan Lim Family of Artists and Students to showcase more than 300 oil paintings done in porcelain plates and scrolls by 43 talented artists.

The Chan Lim Family of Artists and Students have been engaged in the arts for close to half a century already and at present, there are three generations of Chan Lim artists that use a wide range of media, styles and techniques to incorporate Western into Eastern Art. They are currently developing and promoting Chinese brush painting in the country and abroad through several charitable organizations with a special focus on environmental sustainability.

The main medium of Chan Lim, the family patriarch, is Oil and Watercolor which are painted onto canvas as well as in porcelain plates, Asian lanterns and fans to infuse Western techniques with traditional Eastern Art.

The Chan Lim siblings Alex, Felix, Rolex and Jolex, who are all engineers by profession, are currently engaged in leadership positions with multinational companies but they are all bound by their passion for the arts through conducting numerous art classes, workshops, seminars and on-the-spot painting demonstrations. Last January 15, 2017, I was very fortunate to be part of their mini workshop for media and bloggers (Thanks to Ms. Melanie for the opportunity). During the event, Dr. Alex Chan Lim performed an On-the-spot Painting Demonstration prior to teaching us the basic on oil/watercolor painting.

It looks very easy but since it's my first time to try traditional Chinese painting, my artwork looked like it was created by a child.

The art exhibit is also a way to celebrate Chan Lim's 80th birth year, which is a very auspicious milestone in the Chinese culture.

Robin Padilla also graced the event, who is a good friend of the Chan Lim family.

Prior to opening the art exhibit to the public, a Dragon dance performance was witnessed by the attendees.

Below are the art works that you will be able to appreciate when you visit the Chan Lim Family of Artists and Students Art Exhibit at the SM North The Block Atrium starting last January 15 til February 12, 2017.
