Hijo D' Pita
11:09:00 PMMe and my family were on our way home from an event in Ortigas via c5 when we suddenly felt a bit hungry. Since we were already near UP Diliman, I wanted to check out a place at Malingap St. called The Z Compound which was recommended by my office mates.
It was a bit crowded when we arrived and I felt a bit stressed going around while carrying my baby, so we decided to leave the place. But what I saw just beside the gate made me stay a little longer.
Though the place may not be too appealing to the crowd, I've heard great reviews with regards to the snacks served at Hijo D' Pita. I was able to watch an episode of Pop Talk where they were featured and I've been wanting to try their El Chuppacabbra because food critiques from Pop Talk loved it.
Here's the menu:
Here's what I ordered:
El Chuppacabbra Pita - P119.00 |
I'm not a fan of veggies but I was able to eat the cucumber slices (not sure if it's really cucumber) because of the delicious garlic sauce that I literally poured all over my pita. The meat was tender and flavorful, and it tasted even better with the sauce.
I enjoyed eating this but I prefer to pair the El Chuppacabbra with rice on my next visit minus the cucumber. And I do hope that they improve their place so that it would look appealing to hungry customers like us. :)

Thanks for sharing this. I've seen several posts about this place. I do hope they're halal so I can try it one day.

This place reminds me of a similar one I have near my home. Accessible, great for fast food - definitely perfect for some meals!
ReplyDeleteThe cucumber adds a different crunch factor to the meat. I hope the veggies were served fresh. Prices seem reasonable for the portion of the food.
ReplyDeleteI've never had anything like this. It reminds me of a Gyro and usually whenever I buy something like a Gyro I automatically want meat. :)
ReplyDeleteHow nice! I pass by this everyday, never really thinking of trying it. Thanks for the review!
ReplyDeleteI love Mexican food and I tend to be very picky about it. It's so hard to find great Mexican food here in the Philippines. I don't know how I feel about using pita though?
ReplyDeleteI love Mexican Food, this makes me think of Chipotle back in California, our go to place when we're too tired to whip up something ourselves in the kitchen. Maginhawa St. sure has a lot of great places to eat.
ReplyDeleteMaginhawa has so many hidden gems I hope to try them all! :D Would love to try this place when I'm in the area again! :D
ReplyDeleteLovely mexican food and this combination with pita is a definitely one to try soon. I really likes salad and those cucumber and lettuce gives crunchy and fresh taste.
ReplyDeleteThey have really affordable food at hijo d pito pluse it comes with good promos. It also looks really tasty and a good place to satisfy a tummy's churning.
ReplyDeletethese food are quite foreign to me. what's El Chuppacabbra? is it chicken meat? and yes, the place does look a little rundown....
ReplyDeleteI have long heard of that food street, but never had the time to go and check it out. I should bring my family there one Sunday to try out this chupacabra.
ReplyDeleteThe set meal at Hijo D' Pita is quite value for money. The bun with mean and vegetables looks small to me. Anyway hope it taste good.
ReplyDeleteAh... you use open snap~ Like the look of your pita because I'm A FAN OF VEGE! Hahaha... Will try that if I visit your city one day!
ReplyDeleteUP place is the counterpart of BF Aguirre here in the south. those meals are really affordable
ReplyDeleteThat looks like a healthy choice, loads of cucumber goodness in a pita. Thanks for sharing this review. OpenSnap App is a good app to use to look for places to dine in at.
ReplyDeleteI am not into Mexicn foods. But, anything with cucumber is a good try for me.
ReplyDeleteThere are really food stores that are has the potential but aren't given that much attention because of their store design or their location. This is the kind of business that needs help.
ReplyDeleteThis Pita is like shawarma in Arabic but really the cheese involve inside? I like to make my own sandwich and really great with more toppings.
ReplyDeleteThe place looks quite deserted. Probably not a place I would pop into if it weren't for opensnap or similar recommendations.
ReplyDeletethe grilled meats in the pita look pretty decent. glad you chose to highlight a local small biz that could do with some publicity :)
