The search is on for the next batch of digitally-driven industry game changers as PLDT SME Nation, in partnership with Rappler, launch this year's #BeTheBoss which aims to acknowledge the new generation of entrepreneurs that excel in technological innovation and digital integration.

“Our goal is simple and poignant—to demonstrate how digital technology can empower micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and help them grow their business by looking to young and savvy entrepreneurs who’ve actually done it,” VP and Head of PLDT SME Nation Mitch Locsin said.

You can nominate your favorite entrepreneurs online at Rappler from June 1, 2016 to July 10, 2016 so you still have 3 days left to let the world know more about them. Just keep in mind the categories for #BeTheBoss which are:
  • Boss for E-commerce - knows how to own the internet and its opportunities through an innovative application or online service
  • Boss for Social Media - knows how to maximize social media platforms and use it for growing an online community
  • Boss for Social Responsibility - someone who goes beyond marketability and profitability by giving back to the community
  • Boss for Innovative Solutions - leader who thinks outside the proverbial box and utilizes technology to offer services and ideas that cater to a broad audience
Once the online nomination is closed, a panel of judges will then choose the top 3 finalists for each category and lastly, an online public voting starting on July 25, 2016 to August 19. 2016 will finalize the results as it will comprise 40% of the finalists' score.

During the 2015 #BeTheBoss, out of the 500 nominees, 15 finalists were chosen and were brought to Silicon Valley USA for a unique digital immersion in one of the world's technological melting pots.

#BeTheBoss 2015 winners are:

  • Kim Lato of online tech store Kimstore (E-Commerce)
  • Top Wedding Photographer, Jason Magbanua (Social Media)
  • Chino Atilano, founder of Time Free Innovations (Customer Service)
  • Kristine Reyes - Lopez, founder of Messy Bessy (Social Responsibility)
  • Carlo Calimon, founder of MobKard (Mobile Readiness)
This year, winners will also be able to visit Silicon Valley USA to be able to broaden their horizons and globalize their businesses.

Locsin added, “For traditional entrepreneurs, digital can be daunting and discouraging. But that’s exactly what we want to disprove with #BeTheBoss. We want to show everyone that the right digital business solutions can actually democratize and level the playing field especially for MSMEs who are only starting to carve their niche in the industry.”

Last June 28, 2016, I was privileged to attend PLDT SME Nation's Game Night held at The Belle and Dragon. It was a fun and challenging night as the media battled it out to answer questions from different categories to win exciting prizes. It was also their way of promoting the #BeTheBoss Nomination Phase. Here are some of the photos during the game night:

It was my first time to join a game night and I was very nervous the whole time but my team mates did a really great job! We were so close to winning 2nd prize but we lost by 1 point against the other team. Better luck next time! Thanks to PLDT SME Nation, Ms. Millet of DDB Group Philippines, and to Ms. Sabrina and Ms. Charlene of Ripple8 for the invitation!

Again, you still have 3 days left to nominate your favorite entrepreneurs that you think possesses any of the categories of this year's #BeTheBoss. Visit Rappler to fill up the nomination form and learn more about the #BeTheBoss Awards 2016.
