Review: Marou Faiseurs De Chocolat
1:14:00 PMYour favorite Vietnamese Dark Chocolate is now available in the Philippines. Marou Faiseurs de Chocolat is a brand of chocolate created by 2 unusual Frenchmen who call Vietnam home. It is made from 100% local ingredients and the purest dark chocolate, blending a great cacao origin from the Southern Vietnam and a renowned tradition of French Chocolate Makers.
To achieve the best tasting dark chocolate, the two French men revisited the old history of cacao in Vietnam. They use cacao that has an exclusively fine flavor grown by small farmers who cultivate cacao trees in the shade of taller fruit trees (coconut/cashew nut) and ferment the beans themselves at the farm. Usually they get their cacaos from family owned farms to achieve its unique taste.
There are 5 flavors available which were made from different cacao beans depending on the place where they were grown such as Mekong Delta, Annamitic Range and the Central Highlands.
1. Tien Giang 70% - A full bodied chocolate with spicy, fruity notes, made from cacao organically grown by farmers of the Cho Gao Co-op in the Mekong Delta.
2. Dong Nai 72% - The first "Pod-to-Bar" chocolate, made with cacao elaborated in their own fermentation station near Cat Tien natural park; a finely balanced dark chocolate with hints of spice.
3. Lam Dong 74% - A rare and delicate chocolate made in micro-batches from cacao beans cultivated in hilly woodland at the edge of the Vietnamese Central Highlands between Madagui and Bao Loc.
4. Ba Ria 76% - A bold and fruity chocolate made from Trinitario cacao sourced directly from selected farmers in Ba Ria province.
5. Ben Tre 78% - An intense yet balanced chocolate, from Ben Tre province in the Mekong Delta, where cacao trees are planted among coconut groves.
I was able to try the 5 variants and since I'm not really into dark chocolates, I asked my office mates and my family to try them out. Here are their comments:
- Lam Dong, Ba Ria and Ben Tre just had too strong cacao flavor that made the chocolate too bitter to consume in huge amounts. While Ten Giang and Dong Nai were the crowd's favorite because of less cacao percentage compared to the first three variants.
-My favorite was the Ten Giang 70% because it didn't taste too bitter on the first bite then it has a fruity after taste which I really enjoyed.
- I sincerely love the packaging which was inspired by nature, hand-made and designed to inspire. I also love the gold wrapper inside that shows how divine the chocolate inside was.
I wasn't able to try using Marou Chocolates for hot choco or as an ingredient for baked goodies but I bet the end product would taste awesome because it was crafted using purely Vietnamese ingredients of the highest quality.
